Here we go!
Today marks the moment where resolutions start to get tossed around like mud being slung from the tires of a mountain bike. Most people have them. Even the ones who claim they’re perfectly content and have nothing to change – those people are the ones with the MOST resolutions hidden deep within their souls.
A week ago I shared my take on Chris Brogan’s annual tradition. Last year was my first year participating in said tradition and this year it’s making a comeback.
Why share this with you?
Because I can. And because I think it’s important to show what’s in store with The Savvy Copywriter (if you’re new around here, that’s the content marketing company I started) so that you can get pumped for what’s about to happen in 2015.
You’re right. The behind-the-scenes of my daily life isn’t that interesting. What IS interesting is how it impacts you.
This year, my 3 words are written for me but have elements of YOU baked into every one of them. Check it out and you’ll see what I mean.
In 2014, I felt a little bit like I had shiny object syndrome. As a word-nerd, marketing fanatic perfectionist who always wants to stay on top of the latest trends and fix the terrible, awful, no-good tactics being put in place, it was easy for me to get distracted by wanting to help with every project that was sent my way.
Things started to get a little hectic (to say the least) in the last quarter of 2014.
I was being pulled in every direction. I was lured into projects that sounded fun but weren’t in line with the area where I did my best work (which just so happens to be the same place where I find the most excitement).
I started to feel trapped by the ambiguity surrounding my offering.
So… refine is my first word to start 2015.
Here’s what it means.
- I’ll refine what I offer to my customers.
- I’ll refine the process in which I deliver that offering.
- I’ll refine the experience you have with content marketing in your business (more to come on that in a few months… stay tuned)!
Refinement is a sophisticated term for focus. This year, I’ll refocus my energy (and yours) on providing ONLY the services that skyrocket business all around… not just nudge it up the ladder bit by bit.
Any fellow introverts out there? Just me? It’s a delightfully lonesome world at times. As an introvert, I surround myself with the people I love, avoid situations where small talk is a necessity (networking events anyone?) and immerse myself in meaningful conversations.
It’s cozy but it’s not smart.
This year, I broke out of my shell. First, I volunteered at a golf tournament with the Chamber of Commerce. I didn’t know anyone and was terrified walking in. Turns out, I wore the wrong shoes for the morning on the green but had a fantastic time anyway. While the golfers were away, I sat back with a Bloody Mary and got to know a few of the other members of the Chamber.
Fast forward a few months and I’m now serving on the board as the programs/communications chair.
It’s a fun job that’s forced me to break out and connect with others – even when it felt uncomfortable.
I want to do more of that this year both online and offline.
I want to hear more from you. I want to get to know your story and your struggle on a deeper level. Most of all, I want to connect our talents so that we can surge ahead in our businesses.
Connect has another meaning for me too.
As an introvert and only child, it was easy to believe that I could go it alone. I’m no longer blinded by that belief and now, I’m calling in the troops to help me deliver more to the people I work with.
This year, I’ve reestablished my membership on Fizzle (a forum for entrepreneurs, check it out if it sounds like something that could benefit you) and started to mingle with other marketers. We’re only a few hours into the New Year and I can already tell you that the result has exceeded my expectation.
So, to sum it up: More connections = WAY more opportunity… and yes, fun too!
Shocking, right? The copywriter chose WORDS for one of her three words.
On the surface, that might seem like the lamest way to describe my focus this year but WORDS MATTER, you guys!
- WORDS are what make you interesting.
- WORDS are what make people fall head over heels in love with you. (Stunning good looks only get you so far).
- WORDS are what bring you the business, make you the money, and establish you as a powerful professional in control of your destiny.
Words can also break you… if you’re not careful. Using the wrong words will make you look like a weakling without a voice.
In 2014, my voice was quiet. I put my business last way, way, WAY too often.
2015 is my year to let my voice be heard. And guess what… you benefit! Because 2015 is the year where I’m setting my sites on sharing ideas, experience, and lessons so that you don’t have to make the same costly errors I have. You can grow right alongside me by using your WORDS to outshine the competition.
What’re you thinking?
Today’s more than just a day to nurse your hangover (although that’s important too). Once you break through the cobwebs in your mind and stop trying to remember what crazy, wild thing you did last night, start revitalizing your business spirit for the New Year.
- How will your business be different this year?
- How will your life be better?
- What big-time aspirations are lighting the fire in your belly right now?
Share what’s on your mind on Facebook or Twitter and let’s CONNECT.
